FAULT DIAGNOSIS OF A HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION LINE USING WAVEFORM MATCHING APPROACH

Abstract: This paper addresses the problem of accurate fault identification by incorporating the waveform matching technique for fault diagnosis of a double circuit high voltage transmission line. Fault types such as single line to ground, line to line, double line to ground etc. are responsible for transient currents and voltages in Power Systems. Waveform matching involves the superimposition of these waveforms obtained from recording device and Software respectively. The comparison of these waveforms is obtained as an error function of voltages and currents. So, the fault identification has been modeled as an optimization problem of minimizing the error between two sets of waveforms. Analysis has been done using Bare Bones PSO on 2 bus, 6 bus and IEEE 14 bus system. The performance of the algorithm has been compared with appropriate results produced. The primary focus of this paper is to demonstrate the efficiency of this method and cite the common peculiarities in measurements.
